Parametric knitting
Domestic digital fabrication is becoming more and more common, leaving behind analog machines that filled the same need before the digital revolution.
This work aims to bridge the gap between an analog knitting machine with wonderful mechanisms and great capabilities, and digital design tools that offer easy design processes.
The digital parametric system enables designers to visualize their designs on a computer before knitting them on an analog machine without any electronic components. The workflow involves computerized design, digital fabrication of a punch card, and using it to knit the desired structure on a domestic knitting machine.
The paper "A Parametric 3D Knitting Workflow for Punchcard Knitting Machines" was written as part of my thesis work at "Coded Matter" lab under the direction of Yoav Sterman.
